Barn Fire Cause Unknown

Written by on July 26, 2017

Officials may never know what caused the structure fire that consumed a barn and haystack in Cody on Monday evening.
Fire Marshal Sam Wilde says that the huge amount of debris in the barn that burned at 335 Skyline Drive makes the cause of the blaze difficult to determine. And the fire wasn’t completely suppressed when crews left the scene at 3:30 a.m. yesterday – Wilde says that crews had to return because the haystack that also caught fire flared up later in the day.
Additionally, Wilde says that the owner of the property had recently moved all of the items in storage in his garage to the barn so the family could remodel the garage – as a result, there was a large number of items in the barn at the time of the fire. He said due to the large amount of debris, the fire will most likely continue to smolder until they can get a hold of the proper equipment to spread it all out and wet it down.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire. Wilde says that the family was concerned that a number of kittens might have been caught in the barn, but they have all since been accounted for.
