Beartooth Highway and Dunraven Pass Open Tomorrow

Despite the recent weather that’s brought snow to the region, it is spring – and two seasonal road closures are expected to be lifted tomorrow.

Yellowstone National Park officials say that weather-permitting, Dunraven Pass will open Friday, May 24th, between Tower Fall and Canyon Junction at 8 a.m. Because of the time of year, though, motorists are cautioned to anticipate possible temporary road closures, especially in the spring, due to inclement weather and dangerous driving conditions.

Additionally, drivers must watch for ice on the roads, rocks, and possible downed trees. The maximum speed on Dunraven Pass is 35 mph and in select areas, it is 25 mph.

And the Beartooth Highway between Red Lodge and Cooke City is scheduled to open tomorrow as well.

However, a large winter storm is expected to drop about 2 feet of snow on the highway toward the end of the week, so drivers are urged to contact the Wyoming and Montana Departments of Transportation for current road conditions.
