Black Canyon Campground Partially Opens

Written by on July 24, 2017

Black Canyon Campground in the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area has been partially re-opened after flooding closed the area two weeks ago.
According to Christy Fleming, chief of interpretation at Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, the lake level on July 11th had grown to 3,646 feet, six feet over the flood pool. The lake level on July 20th had dropped just enough to expose half of the campground sites at Black Canyon – the other half remain underwater. However, officials have determined that the campsites are safe for overnight occupancy.
Boaters and visitors are advised to use caution near the sites that remain underwater.
