Both NWC Basketball Teams Pick Up A win over the Weekend

The Northwest College men’s and women’s basketball teams were back in action for multiple games over the weekend at the College of Southern Idaho.

Up first a look at the NWC women’s basketball team who came away with a weekend split defeating the CSI legends by a final score of 84-61 and fell to Southern Idaho 79-47.

In the game against the CSI Legends, the lady trappers would use a big second quarter to effectively put the game away. NWC outscored the Legends 27-6 in the second frame to build a 47-27 halftime lead. NWC would put up another 37 points in the second half as they cruised to the victory.

As a team NWC would shoot 55 percent from beyond the arc and made 46 percent of their 2-point field goals.

Leading the way for the Lady Trappers in that game was Raquel Turner with 23 points. Riley Aiono had 14 and Samiyah Worrell had 11.

In the second game of the weekend for the NWC women’s team it was a rough outing against Southern Idaho as scoring was hard to come by. The Lady Trappers dug themselves a hole early, only scoring six first quarter points.

All but one player for Southern Idaho would score in the game.

Shelby Tarter was the leading scorer for NWC in the contest with 10 points.

Following the weekend’s action the Northwest College Women’s basketball team sits at 2-3 on the season.

As for the Northwest College men’s basketball team, they would come away with one win over the weekend in their three games.

The men’s team would fall to the CSI Legends and College of Southern Idaho Thursday and Friday by scores of 107 to 78 and 90-46. On Saturday, the Trappers would pick up a big 77-63 win over California Christian.

In their win the Trappers were tied at the half, 35 a piece, but took control in the second half outscoring California Christian 42-28 en route to their 3rd win of the season.

In that game four trappers would score in double figures led by Hayden Peterson with 17 points. Jerome Mabry had 13, Oluwaseyi Oyeku scored 12 and Gabriel Gutierrez pitched in with 11.

Following the weekend’s action the Trappers now sit at 3-3 on the season.
