Charley Pride Dies at Age 86

Written by on December 12, 2020

African American country singer who paved the way for those who followed, Charley Pride, has died at the age of 86 due to complications from the coronavirus.

The Mississippi born pioneer wasn’t just a good singer as he also played baseball in the negro leagues, served in the United States Army, and worked in Montana before finding his musical stardom in Nashville, TN.

After coming back from serving in the army, he was heard singing at a public venue in Helena Montana where they convinced him to move to Nashville in 1964. Just a little over a year later he was signed to a record label and then went on to have 52 top 10 country hits.

Some of Prides most notable songs are “Kissin an Angel Good Mornin” along with “Afraid of Losing You Again.”
