The 2019 Double Gutter, Curb and Gutter, Sidewalks and Miscellaneous Street and Concrete Upgrades project bid was awarded at Tuesday evening’s Worland City Council meeting.
City Engineer Mike Donnell informed the council that he and others had opened and inspected the two bids that were received for the project. The bid that came in lowest was submitted by Schneider Construction in the amount of $309,605.86. McClellan and MacQueen Incorporated submitted the other bid — Donnell indicated that the bid had some issues and came it above the Schneider Construction bid, McClellan and MacQueen’s bid was $383,506.48.
This project needs to be completed prior to the city’s GSB Paving Project that is set for this summer. The GSB pavers cannot lay down the new pavement without the installation of the new double gutters and some curb work. As soon as this curb and gutter project is done — according to Donnell — the GSB project will move forward and is expected to only take between 3 and 4 days to complete.
Mayor Jim Gill made the point that both projects and the continued improvements aimed at the streets inside the City of Worland would not be possible without the 1 percent optional tax.
A motion for approval to accept the bid of Schneider Construction was made — Councilwoman Christy Schneider abstained from the vote due to connections to the project — and the motion was approved unanimously by the remaining city council members.
