Cody Football Not Resting on their Laurels Entering Playoffs

Written by on October 27, 2020

The Wyoming High School football regular season has concluded which means for the Cody Broncs and Class 3A there are just eight teams remaining as we hit the postseason. The Broncs secured the Number 1 seed and home field advantage through the playoffs on Friday night with a convincing 48-6 win over Jackson. Today, a look at the standings, Cody’s first round opponent and more. Following Cody’s win over Jackson, Mac Morey caught up with wing back/bandit Cody Phillips to talk about the win.

“I had faith in my teammates the whole game. You know, we just came into this game with a lot of energy and I think we were more prepared than Jackson was.”

While Cody and the rest of the Broncs are excited to leave Jackson with a win, Cody knows this is not the end goal.

“We just gotta stay level headed. You know, we can’t get to arrogant, to confident. Beating the number 1 seed feels good but we still got a long ways to go.”

One of the biggest themes for the Broncs this season is they’ve been sluggish when getting off the bus on long road trips. That was not an issue Friday night as Cody put up 27 points in the first half. Bronc Head Coach Matt McFadden gives his thoughts on the total team effort.

“Oh terrific. I thought we got off the bus. We played fast, early. That was a point of emphasis. Kids came out on fire. So really proud of them. All three areas, physical, executed. Yeah, terrific job.”

Taking a look at the playoff bracket the Broncs are paired up with the Worland Warriors in the first round of the playoffs. While a win vs. Jackson was sweet Coach McFadden says getting to host a playoff game is even sweeter and talks about rallying the troops for the postseason.

“Well this wasn’t their goal. Their goal wasn’t to beat Jackson. Their goal was to get a home playoff game and secure home field. That’s exactly what they did. They got bigger goals than just beating Jackson. So focus shouldn’t be an issue with that.”

The Cody Broncs host the Worland Warriors in the first round of the playoffs Friday night at Spike Vannoy Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 6pm and can be heard on KODI.

And now let’s take a look at the playoff pairings for Wyoming starting with Class 3A. All games will be played on Friday unless otherwise indicated.
