Cody “Kicks Off” Rodeo Season
Written by andrew-rossi on May 31, 2019
Cody celebrates its rodeo heritage tomorrow.
The first performance of the Cody Nite Rodeo for the 2019 season will kick off – literally – at 8 p.m. tomorrow. The Big Horn Radio Network is sponsoring the opening event, offering $5 tickets and an opportunity to win prizes with a boot-kick contest.
Mike Darby, co-President of the Stampede Board, says the Nite Rodeo has been the training ground for many cowboys and cowgirls who have gone on to huge success as world champion rodeo stars.
The Cody Nite Rodeo is in its 81st year, and is the longest running and the only nightly rodeo in the world. Each night, competitors vie against each other in events such as saddle bronc riding, team roping, barrel racing, and bull riding – and the audience participates as well, as kids can join the calf scramble. Rodeo clowns, entertaining announcers and the opportunity to meet the participants make it a night that celebrates Cody’s history and heritage.
Gates open at 7 p.m. on Saturday, with rodeo action beginning at 8 p.m. Tomorrow’s special ticket rates of $5 are open to everyone, not just Park County residents, and are available at the Stampede Office on 12th Street or at the gate.
