Cody PD Reports City “Utility Rebate” Phone Scam

Written by on July 23, 2020

Get a call about a rebate on your utility bills? Hang up.

The Cody Police Department is making residents aware of the latest phone scam circulating through the area. You may receive a call about the ability to get a rebate on your utility bills – given you provide enough sensitive information to make the transaction possible. The call even comes from a 307 number. But these calls are not coming from the City Cody, which has no rebate programs its currently offering.

This is the latest phone scam plaguing Cody. There have been reports of scams involving people posing as COVID-19 contact tracers and soliciting sensitive information from susceptible people. A real contact tracer or City of Cody employee will never ask for your bank account numbers, money, medical insurance information or social security numbers over the phone.

Here are the numbers you need to know:

  • Call Public Health at Cody 527-8573 or Powell 754-8870 if you have any concerns or questions about a contact tracing call.
  • If you have questions about the validity of a call, or have other questions about your utility bill, contact City Hall at (307) 527-7511.
  • If you receive either of these scam calls, report them to the Cody Police Department at
    (307) 527-8720
