Cody Tennis Primed for Deep Playoff Run

It’s hard to believe but the Cody Tennis teams will be competing in their last duel of the season this weekend before they host the Regional Tournament. Cody Tennis has seen some change over the season, new coach, turnover on the roster due to graduation but both teams remain successful. Today, I give you a look at four key players that are in the driving seat for Cody Tennis. Anna Brenner has been the Fillies Number 2 Singles player most of the season and talks about the excitement of being back on the court.
“It’s really nice. I’m glad that we’re out here. I think everybody’s been playing really good and we’re all excited to be back. So we’re trying our hardest to put everything into it right now.”
The Fillies have started off the 2020 season strong with a 7-1 record. Soffy Anderson, who’s part of the Fillies number 1 doubles team, says they must take things one day at a time.
“So I think our focus is mostly just improving every day. We push each other, all of us. All the girls work together and all the boys work together and I think that we’re just trying to really improve as a team, altogether, rather than just individually, which is really nice. Just really trying to kick-off the season in a good way. I guess it doesn’t really matter where we’re at now, it’s just where we end up.”
As for the Broncs, they sit at 6-2 on the season. The Broncs are an up and coming squad that’s shown flashes for the last year or so and Solomon Stewart, member of the Broncs Number 1 Doubles team, talks about that turnaround.
“I think we all just… We all just fight. I know every single guy on the team wants it. So my goal as team captain and senior is just to help out the younger guys and set them up for success later on.”
And Cody Champlin has been the Broncs Number 1 singles player all year, a role he is still trying to get better at. Cody talks about that role and the improvement from him and the whole team.
“I can’t speak for everybody else. I think I need some work on strategy and stuff cause sometimes I just go out there and smack the ball and that probably isn’t the best idea. I feel like that’s the same case with quite a few other kids. Just getting better every time we play. For doubles just boosting the teammates up, keeping high energy.”
You can catch Cody, Solomon, Soffy and Anna back in action Saturday when they travel to Casper for matches with Natrona County and Kelly Walsh. Cody Tennis hosts the Regional Tournament September 18th and 19th in Cody.
