DEVYN ENGDAHL LED THE WAY FOR THE CODY CUBS MONDAY NIGHT AS THEY PICKED UP A PAIR OF WINS OVER THE DOUGLAS CATS.
PICKING THINGS UP IN GAME TWO OF THE DOUBLE HEADER. THE CODY CUBS WENT INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEVENTH INNING TIED WITH DOUGLAS AND HAYDEN BRONNENBERG LED OFF THE INNING WITH A LEAD OFF DOUBLE. STEPPING TO THE PLATE WITH NO OUTS AND A RUNNER ON SECOND WAS ENGDAHL. PRIOR TO THIS AT BAT ENGDAHL WAS 2-3 IN THE GAME WITH A RUN SCORED. AND HERE’S HOW THE GAME ENDED
AFTER THE GAME I CAUGHT UP WITH DEVYN TO ASK HIM WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH HIS HEAD ENTERING THE GAME WINNING AT BAT.
“JUST TRYING TO GET THE RUNNER TO MOVE OVER OR GET HIM TO SCORE. IF I COULD HIT IT OVER THE INFIELD I KNEW HE’D SCORE, SO THAT’S WHAT I WAS TRYING TO DO.”
HE DID JUST THAT, SLAPPING IT INTO LEFT FIELD, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE LEFT FIELDER. BRONNENBERG WAS AROUND THIRD EVEN BEFORE THE BALL HIT THE GROUND.
“YEAH, THAT WAS EXCITING. I WAS REALLY HAPPY, FINALLY COMING OUT OF MY SLUMP AND GETTING THE WINNING RUN IN.”
THE CODY CUBS LED THE SECOND GAME 2-0 EARLY ON BUT THE CATS WERE ABLE TO CLAW BACK WITH A FOUR RUN THIRD INNING. THE CUBS THEN BATTLED BACK SCORING A RUN IN THE THIRD AND FIFTH TO HELP SET UP ENGDAHL’S GAME WINNING RBI.
GRADY MCCARTEN GOT THE START FOR THE CUBS IN GAME TWO PROVIDING SOME DEPTH FOR THE CUBS. HE WOULD PITCH THREE INNINGS AND GAVE UP FOUR RUNS BEFORE TRISTAN BLATT CAME IN TO PITCH THE NEXT THREE.
IN GAME ONE OF THE DOUBLE HEADER ENGDAHL WAS TASKED WITH THE STARTING PITCHING DUTIES AND DELIVERED SEVEN INNINGS OF 4 HIT BALL, STRUCK OUT 3 AND WALKED JUST ONE WHILE GIVING UP NO RUNS AS THE CUBS TOOK GAME ONE 8-0.
ENGDAHL ON WHAT WAS WORKING FOR HIM ON THE MOUND.
“I FELT REALLY GOOD. I’VE BEEN KIND OF STRUGGLING ON THE MOUND BUT FINALLY GOT MY GROOVE BACK AND WAS ABLE TO PITCH WELL.”
THE CUBS GOT THINGS GOING IN THE SECOND INNING WITH A TWO OUT RALLY, SCORING SIX RUNS CAPPED OFF BY A 2-OUT, THREE RBI DOUBLE FROM HAYDEN BRONNENBERG. TYLER GRENZ ADDED TWO MORE RUNS IN THE SIXTH INNING WITH A TWO-RUN HOME RUN AND THE CUBS WITH THE WINS IMPROVE TO 6-9 ON THE SEASON.
UP NEXT: THE CUBS GET A DAY OFF TUESDAY BEFORE HOSTING CONFERENCE FOE, RIVERTON WEDNESDAY NIGHT FOR A DOUBLE HEADER THAT WILL BEGIN AT 5PM.
