Fillies Extend Win Streak to 7, Broncs Win Streak Snapped Vs. Sheridan

Written by on January 11, 2022

The Cody Basketball teams were back in action, on Tuesday, for an afternoon matinee as they hosted Sheridan.

In the first game of the evening the Cody Fillies dropped in 22 fourth quarter points to propel them to the 58-41 victory, their 7th straight.

This was a top five match-up in the state as the Fillies are ranked in a tie for second while Sheridan is fourth and it lived up to the bill.

The Fillies would find themselves down early, trailing 14-9 at the end of the first but turned things around in the second to take a 26-20 lead into the intermission.

After scoring the 3rd quarters first four points the Lady Broncs would chip away at the lead and cut Cody’s to just two at one point but the Fillies responded and led 36-31 after three.

Early on, it was a struggle for both teams to find the bottom of the net. The Fillies would miss several from in, around the hoop but everything changed in the final frame.

The Fillies used constant pressure all game long and force Sheridan into timely turnovers and Cody would convert just about every shot they took with Izzy Radakovich really opening things up scoring 10 of her 12 points in the final eight minutes.

Molly Hays led the way with 17 points, Izzy Radakovich had 12 and Kennedi Nimannn added 11 for the Fillies who are now 7-0 to start the season ( only 1 of 2 remaining undefeated girls teams in Class 4A).

In the second game of the double header it was the Broncs vs. the Broncs as Cody showed aggressiveness and toughness early but Sheridan was just to much. Sheridan held a six point advangtage after one and extended their lead to 38-21 at the half.

Sheridan would continue that momentum in the second half as Cody’s Kam Nieamnn did his best to keep it close, knocking in three made 3-pointers in the third. At one point it was a 3-point contest between him and Sheridan’s Cael Hamrick, who finished with four made 3-pointers.

Sheridan would secure their 7th win of the season with a 78-52 victory.

Leading the way for the Broncs was Kam Niemann with 14 points, four made 3’s. Grady McCarten addded 13 and Robby Porter had 10 for the Broncs who are now 2-5 on the season.

Up Next: Cody Basketball will be in Casper for a double header against Kelly Walsh on Thursday. Girls at 4:30, boys to follow. On Saturday, both teams are in Riverton to open conference play.
