Flag Disposal DropOff Installed

Written by on August 16, 2017

Park County now has a dedicated place to retire worn out American flags.
In partnership with the National Association of Counties, the National Flag Foundation and the National Sheriffs Association, Park County has installed a flag retirement box at the Park County Courthouse, near the War Memorial in the lobby outside of the Clerk’s office.
Park County Commission Vice Chairman Loren Grosskopf says this centrally-located drop-off provides convenience while respecting our national symbol.
The United States Flag Code outlines proper flag etiquette — everything from flying it near other flags to instructions on how to raise and lower it. When it comes to disposing of old flags, the code says that it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. Members of the local VFW post will be responsible for the proper disposal of the worn flags. Residents are asked to fold the flag respectfully before being placed in the box.
