Food Bank of Wyoming Hosts Drive-Thru Food Pantry in Powell

Food Bank of Wyoming Hosts Drive-Thru Food Pantry in Powell

Written by on April 2, 2021

During the drive-thru pantry in Powell, the Food Bank of Wyoming shares a new name and a new look with the same vision: to fight food insecurity everywhere.

As the group continues its mission to “fight hunger and feed hope,” they will do so under a new name. the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies is now the Food Bank of Wyoming.

Regardless of the name, the group returns to Park County. Several pallets of food are boxed and ready for distribution to residents struggling with food security.

Once again, the food bank is partnering with the Park County Office of Homeland Security for the drive-thru pantry. This partnership coordinated the recent drive-thru pantry at the Cody Stampede Rodeo Grounds on March 9.

Today’s pantry will be held at the Park County Fairgrounds in Powell.

Recipients are asked to line up in the front parking lot (off of East 5th Street.) Distribution will begin at 1:00 p.m. Make sure to have a 4 ft x 4 ft area in your vehicle clear for the food box.

There are no requirements to receive food, but there will be a limited supply. Boxes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cody’s last drive-thru pantry was extremely successful. Over 700 vehicles received food boxes, meat, and a carton of milk.

There should be no worries about anyone in need missing their chance to get some food.

Both organizations involved with the food distribution know that drive-thru pantries are well attended. They have planned accordingly.

Jack Tatum, Director of Park County Homeland Security, said as much during the March 9 pantry in Cody. Over 900 vehicles were anticipated, and the department was well supplied for that number.

“We’re making sure everybody goes home with something,” Tatum said.

While the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies fulfills its mission in Powell, it is officially rechristening itself. Now, they will be serving local communities as the Food Bank of Wyoming.
