Northwest College Students Can Get Childcare Assistance Thru New Grant
Written by Andrew-Rossi on August 1, 2022
Northwest College students balancing family life with academic growth can now attain funding to cover childcare expenses thanks to a new grant acquired by the college.
A grant from the Wyoming Department of Family Services has made funding available for qualified Northwest College students to receive assistance with the cost of childcare during the Fall 2022 semester. Those who qualify may use the grant award at a childcare provider of their choice.
Enrollment may be online, hybrid, in-person, or any combination. United States citizens, non-citizens, and international students all may qualify.
Eligible students must be enrolled in a degree, credit diploma, or certificate program for the Fall 2022 semester– and have a child, of course – to receive up to $6,000 for childcare services.
Eligible students must also experience one or more of the following hardships related to childcare costs:
- Reduced college course load
- Reduced credits earned in the prior academic term
- Risk of reduced credits in the upcoming academic term
- Prohibitive childcare costs
The level of assistance is dependent on the age and number of children. Grant awards are also prorated based on student enrollment as follows:
- 100% for full-time status (12+ credits)
- 75% for quarter-time status (9-11 credits)
- 50% for half-time status (6-8 credits)
- 25% for less than half-time status (1-5 credits)
Students who are not eligible include those not enrolled in the Fall 2022 semester, students enrolled in dual and/or concurrent courses, students enrolled in a non-degree program, students enrolled in only life enrichment and/or professional development courses, and students with no childcare costs.
Funding is limited and awards will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis as a one-time payment beginning September 14.
Any Northwest College students interested in applying can find the Childcare Assistance Grant for Fall 2022 application on the Northwest College website.
