If you’re visiting Yellowstone National Park today, be aware that portions of Old Faithful won’t be available until after 2 p.m.

The National Park Service is notifying visitors that due to the visit of Vice President Mike Pence, there will be a temporary closure of the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center and portions of Upper Geyser Basin.

Portions of Old Faithful will close for a VIP event from 8am-2pm. Park officials say that while you may still watch Old Faithful erupt from a distant vantage point during this time, they encourage visitors to head to other areas of the park during these hours.

The Vice President arrived in Billings yesterday afternoon aboard Air Force Two, accompanied by Montana Senator Steve Daines and Congressman Greg Gianforte. While in Billings, Pence was scheduled to be briefed by the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the Yellowstone Substance Abuse Coalition, as well as attending a political event for Senator Daines.

The vice president and his wife, Karen, will be accompanied by Interior Secretary David Bernhardt for the visit to Yellowstone National Park today. Pence is meeting with National Park Service and Forest Service employees about rebuilding National Park Service infrastructure.
