One Hour Delays in Wind River Canyon Wednesday and Thursday

Written by on June 28, 2017

Drivers, be aware – several changes to the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s construction schedules will mean delays today for local travelers.
Cody Beers with WYDOT says that chip sealing work will be taking place on the Corbett Bridge today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. He says that delays will be up to 15 minutes.
And a set of closures of the highway through Wind River Canyon today and tomorrow are intended to help a contractor successfully and safely bring a large rock off the canyon wall to the edge of the highway. Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Kaia Tharp of Thermopolis says the rock they were trying to bring down yesterday has been more difficult than they anticipated.
Road closures will begin at 1 p.m. today for one hour – they will continue regularly at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., with the road opening again at 2, 4 and 6 to safely move traffic through the work zone. Additionally, Tharp says they have scheduled a three-hour closure of the highway, from 7-10 p.m. both days.
The work zone where the rock and other debris are being removed is about halfway between Shoshoni and Thermopolis. WYDOT officials say the rock removal project is expected to be complete by the July 4 holiday.
