Written by on May 23, 2023

Park County Open Lands is inviting the community to participate in its 1st Annual Community Picnic on June 10th.  The event, held at Canal Park from 4-7PM, will not only celebrate the wide, open spaces and agricultural heritage of Park County, but will also mark the launch of the community-led land trust program.

Park County Open Lands is a community-led program of the Jackson Hold Land Trust and was established in 2022.  The organization works to protect and steward Park County’s open lands, including agricultural lands and wildlife habitat.

“Park County Open Lands empowers individual landowners to make a difference in protecting important personal and community values,” says Jarren Kuipers, Park County Open Lands Advisory Council Chair.  “The community picnic is an opportunity to collectively celebrate those values and efforts.  It is a reminder of why we do this work.”

Park County Open Lands, founded by a group of long-time residents, aims to address the development pressures the county’s open spaces face.  The event is is open to the public with face-painting, a bouncy house, cornhole and live music from Doc Morton and the Rowdy Uncle Band.  Caterin’ 2 U will be providing food, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages.

“This celebration of open space is goin to be a family-friendly event with fantastic food and music to tickle your toes,” adds Alex Few, Park County Lands Regional Director.  “Canal Park has stunning views of the open space we’re working hard to protect.  It’s one of the things that makes this place such a fantastic community to live in.”

Park County Open Lands is also offering a raffle with the chance to win a range of unique prizes, including guided hikes, raft trips, dance lessons, a grass-finished beef bundle, and more.  All proceeds from the raffle will directly contribute to the landscape protection efforts in Park County.
