Program Seeks to Welcome International Students

Written by on November 13, 2018

Northwest College’s International Program draws students from all over the world – and with the holidays coming up, many of those students would benefit from association with local families to call their own.
That’s why Northwest College is seeking individuals and families to participate in the Friendship Family Program, which will provide support to the international students who have come to Powell.
By participating in the program, which is designed to give students a connection with local community members, residents have an opportunity to learn about diverse cultures, as well as introducing the international students to our local culture. That’s according to Cassie Loera in the Office of Intercultural Programs at the college.

The family or individual does not need to provide lodging. Instead, the program aims to give students opportunities to experience life off campus and make friendships with community members. There are no time or activity requirements to be a Friendship Family – some people host students for a monthly meal, while others invite their students to join family vacations and holidays.
Current NWC international students are from more than 26 countries all over the world, including Belgium, Cameroon, China, Greece, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Rwanda, and Uruguay, and many others.
