Remembering The Past Through A Series Of Noises

Written by on November 1, 2022

The home stretch of 2022 is here!

As another year comes to a close, sometimes it’s fun to look back and see how far we’ve come over the years. Nowadays, we have things such as self-driving cars, smartphones that are basically “mini computers,” and headsets that allow us to experience virtual reality. These are things that people didn’t have twenty years ago.

Because of some astonishing advancements in technology, Bloomberg reports that “people are 13% more productive today than they were just five years ago.”

So it got me thinking… what are different sounds or noises growing up that we don’t hear anymore? I posed this question on Reddit, and here are some of the responses:

  1. Old school telephones. There was a special sound to them that can’t be replicated.” (via ExpensiveDot1732)

  2. “Coming Soon To Theaters…”

  3. “You’ve Got Mail”(via lazyasdrmr)

  4. TV Static(via FanOfAnimals1983)

  5. The Chiming of an Old ClockThe chiming of my parents “grandfather” clock they had in their living room. Used to hear it all the time at the beginning of every hour. It was beautiful. (via numbskull56)

I remember the distinct sound of my teacher writing on a chalkboard. Remember the sound of the ice cream truck? When I was a kid, a dove used to sit outside my window every morning and I’d listen to it chirp before school. It’s funny how little things like this are some of the most vivid memories I have of my childhood.

What’s a sound that you miss from your childhood? Let me know in the comments!
