The Best: Remembering Tina Turner

She was simply the best. Tina Turner, who passed away May 24th at the age of 83 at her home in Switzerland, was a true rock’n soul music icon. With a career that began in the sixties with her abusive ex-husband, to then paving her own way in the 70’s and 80’s, Turner’s music and life is the true definition of resilience, courage and strength. Known as the “Queen of Rock’n Roll”, she has left a legacy where she rewrote the rules of music and soared.

Since her passing, fans are reliving the “What’s Love Got to Do With It” singer’s final show from her farewell tour that wrapped May 5, 2009 at the Sheffield Arena in England. Performing hits like “The Best” and “River Deep, Mountain High.” Watch the final concert highlight footage below.

Fellow celebrities have been posting to social media to honor the legacy of Turner, including  Elton John. “We have lost one of the world’s most exciting and electric performers,” John wrote in an Instagram post. “A total legend on record and on stage. She was untouchable. Condolences to Erwin and her family. The saddest news.”

The Rollings Stones frontman, Mick Jagger, posted that he was “so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner”.

Pierce Brosnan posted this throwback image on Instagram of the pair along with a touching message.

“Farewell to an icon, rock-goddess and legend. Proud to stand beside the extraordinary Tina Turner at of the premier of GoldenEye, Leicester Square, London November 1995,” wrote Brosnan. Turner sang the James Bond theme song for the 1995 film.

Brosnan continued, “My sincere and heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and fans. RIP”
