Riverside High School Wins Their First State Title

The Riverside High School Lady Rebels won the 1st State Title in School History Saturday at the Wyoming 1A State Volleyball Championships in Casper.

Riverside finished the regular season 29-5 overall and 8-0 in Conference and won 19 in a row to finish.

The Lady Rebels were ranked Number 2 in the WyoPrep Coaches and Media Poll at the end of the regular season.

In the 1A West Conference Regionals,  Riverside would be the 1 seed from the Northwest Quad and face the 4 seed from the Southwest Quad Encampment.

Riverside would lose only 1 set at Regionals, the very first set of the tournament.

The Lady Rebels would sweep Saratoga 3-0, and Cokeville in the West Conference Championship 3-0 to become the West Regional Champions.

At the Wyoming 1A State Championships in Casper, the Lady Rebels would face the East Conference 4 seed Rock River.

Riverside would again sweep their opponent 3-0.

Next up was Hulett, coming off a win over Little Snake River, The Lady Rebels would also sweep Hulett.

The East Number 1 seed and ranked number 1 in the WyoPrep Poll Southeast Lady Cyclones would meet Riverside in the Championship.

Down by 2 sets 23-25, 17-25. The Lady Rebels would win the following 3 sets 25-22, 25-16, 16-14 to win the 1st State Title in School History.

The Lady Rebels were led by Seniors Vaidyn VanderPloeg with 461 kills for the season, Laila Davis with 856 assists, and Caroline Schlattmann with 270 kills, and 257 digs.

Junior Dakota Cervantes, Sophomore Vinaya VanderPloeg, Freshman Brooklynn Paxton, Junior Melissa Martinez, Senior Hailee McClure, Junior Anna Stone, Freshman Johnna Clifford, Sophomore Josie Long, Freshman Kennedy Bassett, and Freshman Varissa Olsen were all members of the 2022 Wyoming 1A State Volleyball Champions.

Riverside is Coached by Cindi Smith who is in her 5th season as the Head Coach.

Smith began her career at Riverside with a 5-22 record in 2018, and 10-10-3 in 2019.

Since Smith has a record of 89-11-1.
