Santa Claus Comes to Cody by Helicopter for Yellowstone Regional Airport Fly-In Event

Written by on October 19, 2022

Yellowstone Regional Airport (YRA) is holding its first-ever “Santa Fly-In” event on Saturday, November 26th, 2022, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

YRA Airport Director Aaron Buck says, “We wanted to bring the airport and the community together. If it goes well, we hope to continue the event in the future.”

The airport terminal will have arts and crafts tables for kids and family-friendly Christmas movies playing inside. Outside the terminal, there will be firetrucks and airplanes decorated with lights and other festive adornments.

Families and their children will have the opportunity to greet Santa Claus as he arrives in Cody with Ms. Claus on a Guardian A-Star Helicopter where Santa will hand out goodie bags. Guardian Flight is donating their time and providing the helicopter for the Santa Fly-In on November 26th.

Santa, who wishes to remain anonymous, says, “This will be a Christmas experience, not necessarily an event.”

YRA plans to live-stream the event using Facebook live so people can also join the event remotely.

To fund this Christmas experience, YRA applied for a grant from the Park County Travel Council and applied for a $2500 grant from the state.

After Santa has safely landed in Cody to greet families at the airport, he will head downtown with Ms. Claus for the parade.
