Seat belt use is being praised for saving the lives of two drivers in a collision south of Torrington last week.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol reports that a near head-on crash Wednesday on Highway 85 between Torrington and Cheyenne resulted in only minor injuries to both drivers. The crash occurred at the intersection of Highways 85 and 152, when the driver of a 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup pulled into the path of a southbound Nissan Altima. The driver of the Nissan was unable to take evasive actions in time, and both vehicles collided in a near head-on collision.
While the vehicles sustained substantial damage, occupants from both vehicles received minor injuries. The highway patrol reports that seat belts and airbags played a significant role in the survival of all occupants.
The WHP is reminding motorists that using a seat belt is the easiest step you can take to ensure a better chance of surviving a serious motor vehicle collision. Seat belts can help drivers and passengers from being ejected during a crash, and statistics have shown seatbelts save thousands of lives each year.
