Sophomore Standouts: Remy Broussard and Jackson Schroeder
Written by Cole Havens on November 12, 2020
The Sophomore class for Cody Football has really stood out for the Broncs this season. Remy Broussard, Jackson Schroeder, Jace Grant, Matt Nelson, Luke Talich and the rest of the sophomore class has balled out all year long and is a big reason the Broncs are about to play for a State Title. Today, a look at two of those players, Remy and Jackson, who have been key for the Broncs offensive and defensive attack. Those two have combined to rush for just under 600 yards and have scored nine touchdowns on the ground in 2020. They’re are also third and fourth in defensive points for the Broncs and have combined for 70 tackles. They look to be an integral piece for Cody in Saturday’s State Championship. Remy has taken advantage of every opportunity presented but praises the senior leadership for showing him the way
“Oh man, we’ve got the best group of seniors. These guys, they just make you feel like you’re, you don’t even feel like, like the age doesn’t even matter. I just got in there and I tried, did my best and they just help me go through and get better every day.”
Remy has played the bandit position on defense and wing back on offense all year and talks about his improvement from week one to now.
“This season, I think that, when I went into the season just like knowing that, thinking that I wasn’t going to play a lot and I was just going to get better for next year. And so this year I think I’ve gotten a lot better than I thought I was going to get in a season because I’ve just been playing in games, which is what makes you better I think, a lot.”
Remy goes on to talk about the preparation at practice this week and what it will take for the Broncs to claim the championship.
“Everyday coach says it’s not about Jackson. It’s just about us and what we do. If we do everything we can I think we’ll come out of there good. I think that it just takes everybody coming together and doing their thing.”
As for Jackson Schroeder, he was a member of the Cody Cubs when they won the State baseball title just over four months ago and says it’s humbling to play in another championship.
“Actually this is the first time I’ve thought about it but yeah it’s awesome, great experience. People don’t usually get these type of opportunities and I hope we can capitalize on them.”
Jackson’s been the starting will linebacker all season and has received more playing time at fullback as the season’s gone on and adds what his focus has been this year.
“Just get better every day. Work harder. It’s a grind and things don’t come easy here. I have developed and gotten more comfortable and kind of taken the role but gotta stay focused and keep doing what I’m doing.”
Jackson goes on to praise the scout team, a group that may not get all the limelight, as a group of guys that are the reason the Broncs are in this spot in the first place.
“You know, our scout team takes it to us. That’s a big part of why we’re so successful. They bring it to us and they get us prepared for Friday. All credit to them. They’ve been doing an awesome job.”
And at this point in the season Jackson says they must take care of the little things to be successful.
“Yeah, just focus on the little stuff. We gotta capitalize on opportunities. Just stay in the moment, not freak out. Just know that it’s just a game and feel like it’s any other game.”
