Summer Food Program Begins in Cody

Written by on May 31, 2017

No child in Cody should go hungry this summer.
For the third year in a row, Park County School District 6 is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge, at various times and locations throughout the community.
According to Gen Sheets, the food service supervisor for the school district, this is a federal reimbursement program, similar to the national school lunch program. She says as the sponsor, the school district chooses the locations. This year they are offering lunches and afternoon snacks at the Paul Stock Aquatics and Recreation Center and the Cody branch of the Park County Youth Clubs for most of the summer; and at Sunset Elementary they will be serving breakfast and lunch for the month of June.
Sheets says that the meals and snacks will be well rounded and offer foods from the main food groups.

The food program is open to all children, regardless of whether or not they are members of the Youth Clubs or the Rec Center. The summer food program began yesterday and will run through August 18th weekdays at the Rec Center and Youth Clubs.
