Summer Food Program Expands

For families throughout the Bighorn Basin facing financial difficulties, there is assistance available to make sure children don’t go hungry this summer.

Park County School District 6 is participating in the Summer Food Service Program again this year. Meals are provided to anyone age 18 and under, and without charge.

Park 6 School nutrition director Gen Sheets says the School District is providing meals in five cities this year:

“We have expanded beyond Cody for this summer, we’re going to reach over into Powell, Byron, down to Greybull, and also Meeteetse.”

It’s breakfast, lunch or a snack, depending on the site. One option for finding location and hours is through a text message:

“There’s a site called Summer Meal Site Finder. You can also text Summer Meals to 9779 or call 1-866-348-6479”

The summer meal program begins June 3rd and goes into August.
