Yellowstone National Park has reported its third busiest May on record.
The park hosted 434,385 visits last month – that was a 2.8 percent decrease from 2018, which was the busiest May recorded.
So far in 2019, the park has hosted almost 576,000 visits, up 1 percent from the same period last year. Year-to-date visitation in 2019 is 11 percent higher than five years ago in 2015. The highest number of visitors to the Park by this time of the year was in 2016, when almost 594,000 people had passed through the gates.
The continued high level of visitation in the park underscores the need to plan a Yellowstone adventure ahead of time, according to Park officials. Anticipate delays or limited parking at popular destinations, and check road conditions on the park’s website before you arrive.
