True West Magazine Honors Cody

Written by on January 2, 2018

The community of Cody and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West once again have been singled out by a leading western magazine for keeping western tradition alive.
Last month, True West Magazine named the Center of the West the Best Western Museum overall, and two of the museums within the center were also given recognition – the Plains Indian Museum was given the honor of the best American Indian Collection, and the Best Western Art Collection title went to the Whitney Western Art Museum.
The Center of the West partnered with Navy Arms and Winchester Firearms to re-create the Winchester “Centennial Model” 1873 lever-action rifle, producing just 200 exhibition models and 1000 presentation models. That rifle was named the Best Commemorative Rifle by the magazine – and the article noted that one hundred percent of the profits from the sale of the two models will go to the mission of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and the Cody Firearms Museum.
But the Center of the West wasn’t the only local recipient of True West’s honors – the community Cody itself was the reader’s choice for Best Old West Art Town.
