The Worland City Council selected a new council member at Tuesday night’s regular meeting–hearing from three citizens representing Ward 3 in Worland.
Caleb Vigil–Miranda Mickelson and Rico Flores were all in attendance at the meeting and gave short presentations to the council. All three have deep ties to the Worland community and Washakie County. During each of the presentations–the candidates all made it known to the council that they wanted to be involved and to continue to help Worland grow.
After the council heard from Flores–Mickelson and Vigil–they convened an executive session to decide who would fill the seat in Ward 3. As members of the public–media and those seeking the position filed back into council chambers–Mayor Jim Gill made the motion to appoint Caleb Vigil to the council seat vacancy in Ward 3. Vigil was approved unanimously and was then sworn in by City Attorney Kent Richins.
A number of those on the council wanted to make clear to Flores and Mickelson that this was not the end–and that an opportunity to serve could be in their future. Councilman Keith Gentzler said quote–“If you aren’t chosen–don’t give up. Elections come up and attrition happens–the opportunity isn’t just tonight.” End quote.
