WHSAA Releases Outline on How Fall Sports Return

Written by on July 27, 2020

UPDATE: ACCORDING TO WHSAA COMMISIONER RON LAIRD, HE SAYS “THEY ARE STILL IN MEETINGS THIS WEEK.” A RETURN TO FALL SPORTS MAY BE ON THE HORIZON. IN THE MEANTIME THE WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION RELEASED A STATEMENT OUTLINING HOW FALL SPORTS CAN MAKE A RETURN.

“THERE HAS BEEN AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF EFFORT PUT FORTH BY SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS TO PLAN AND MAKE RETURNING OUR EDUCATIONAL BASED ACTIVITIES A POSSIBILITY THIS FALL. PLEASE FOLLOW ALL GUIDELINES THAT YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT AND LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT HAVE IMPLEMENTED. PLEASE DO NOT BE SELFISH, WHICH COULD MAKE OUR STATE HAVE TO BACKTRACK AS SOME OF THE OTHER STATES ARE CURRENTLY HAVING TO DO. THIS WILL ONLY DELAY OR MAKE US GO THROUGH ANOTHER SCENARIO LIKE WE HAD IN THE SPRING.

A LINK ON THEIR WEBSITE HAS THE GUIDELINES THAT HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE SCHOOLS FOR RETURNING STUDENT/ATHLETES BACK TO CAMPUS. THESE ARE RECOMMENDATIONS AND SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAVE WORKED WITH THEIR LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENTS TO FORMULATE THEIR PLANS. THERE IS ALSO A DOCUMENT THAT SHOWS THE DECISIONS THAT WERE MADE AT OUR BOARD MEETING IN JUNE.”
