“Wings of Blue” Demonstration at Cody Air Fair

Written by on August 3, 2017

The Cody Air Fair this weekend will bring some special guests to our local airspace.
The Wings of Blue Air Force Parachute Team is scheduled to perform freefall skydive presentations at this weekend’s event. This demonstration team travels across the country to airshows, sporting events, and other venues to represent the Air Force in precision parachuting.
Technical Sergeant John Shortell says members of the team serve primarily as jumpmasters and instructors for the Air Force’s Basic Freefall Parachuting course, and devote most of their time to teaching students about parachuting and training them to make unassisted freefall skydives.
He points out that although the team now regularly wins collegiate and national skydiving competitions, the whole thing began with a little rule-breaking.

Shortell adds that at this weekend’s event, the divers will be jumping with an 800 foot flag, as well as diving in formations with smoke grenades on their ankles. He says their demonstrations will be followed Saturday by interaction with the crowd, teaching about skydiving.
The Cody Air Fair is this Saturday from 8-1 at Choice Aviation, with the airshow from 9:30 to 10:45.
