The American Legion Baseball season is underway in Wyoming.

The Powell Pioneers under the direction of new Head Coach Jason Borders got the season underway last weekend with a sweep over Miles City, Mont.

Powell would win game 1 by a final of 15-9 and out-slugged Miles City in game two by a final of 16-15.

This will be Coach Borders’ fourth official stint with Powell. According to the Powell Tribune, he played for the Pioneers in the 1980’s and his first official coaching stint was from 1998-2001. He returned in 2009 and coached three years as an assistant and three more as Head Coach.

For the last several years he’s been coaching at Lovell.

With the Legion Baseball season officially underway, let’s take a look at some key dates and info to know, focusing mainly on the Single-A level.

According to WyoPreps, Wyoming Legion Baseball has a new State Chairman and that is Jack Simms. He takes over for Cody Beers, who stepped down last September.

There will be 13 total Single-A teams withy four total divisions.

Cody, Lovell and Powell will continue to make up the Northwest Division.

Each team will play their division opponent four total times. These will be home-and-home series, with each being made up of two 7-inning double headers, like in years past.

The District Tournaments are scheduled for July 18th through the 20th.

The West District Tournament will take place in Green River.

The State-A Tournament will take place in Cody at Milward L. Simpson Stadium July 25-29.

Due to the fact that Cody hosts the State Tourney, the Cubs earn an automatic bid to State.
