The Yellowstone Quilt Fest (YQF) takes place on Friday, July 29th, and Saturday, July 30th at the Riley Arena and Event Center in Cody, Wyoming. This will be the first time the Quilt Show has been held at Riley Arena, according to a recent press release. Admission is $5 per person at the door.

Special exhibits this year include Honor Quilts for Big Horn Basin, Art Quilts, Quilts in Memorial, Challenge Quilts, and over 150 New, Old, and Vintage quilts.

A special display called, “Plains Indian Women,” by Marie Shirley Jones from Red Lodge, Montana, will be featured. “While I did extensive research, I am not an expert on the lives of these women and how they lived in the early 1800’s. I did attempt to insert elements from my research into the clothing for each of the women,” Jones says.

Paintbrush Piecers Quilt Guild, which sponsors YQF, is making and continuing to donate quilts to honor Big Horn Basin Veterans. According to YQF, “These quilts are made with donated supplies, including the time quilting them. The quilts are given to the local organization, Families on the Front Line, for distribution. About 40 Veteran Quilts will be displayed.”

There will also be a display of quilts made by quilters who have recently passed away. This Memorial Display will feature work by Elaine Haberland of Wapiti, Cookie Brown of Greybull, and Sherry Fink of Basin.

Each day, folks can enjoy free demonstrations of various quilting techniques. These short programs will provide instruction and supplies for participation.

On Friday, the event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday the event goes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. People can submit quilts as entries into the show, antique quilts, large and small quilts, and even quilts from past shows are welcome.

Yellowstone Quilt Fest is partially funded by the Park County Travel Council.
