The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started by the watershed advocacy group, the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL), in 2003. The festival’s namesake is in celebration of SYRCL’s landmark victory to receive “Wild & Scenic” status for 39 miles of the South Yuba River in 1999. The home festival kicks off the international tour to communities around the globe, building a network of grassroots organizations connected by a common goal of using film to inspire activism.
“The Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour is thrilled to make four stops in Wyoming this season. The 2025 festival theme of ‘Wild at Heart’ speaks to the power of wild places to spark inspiration, compassion, and understanding of the world around us. Hosting this event is a chance for organizations like Park County Open Lands to connect with their communities and raise local awareness by showcasing their work. WSFF is a 20+ year tradition of getting people of all ages together to feel empowered and excited through a night of inspiring films,” said Michael Huth, National Tour Manager.
This year’s tour event in Cody features a lineup that celebrates resilience, restoration, and the power of people and places we call home. From the rugged mountains of Wyoming to the Italian Dolomites, each film captures how adventure, stewardship, and innovation come together in the wild places we love. The festival is a natural extension of Park County Open Lands’ work to inspire people to act on behalf of the amazing landscape that is home.
