[Cheyenne, WY] — December 16, 2025
A crash continues to be investigated after a deadly crash about 16 miles southeast of Lander on WY 789. On the afternoon of December 7th, a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup was southbound on WY 789 at mile marker 64 when it left the roadway to the right. The truck hit the guardrail, forcing the rear of the truck to kick left. The truck then went into a driver side skid across the road into the opposite guardrail. The impact broke the guardrail, causing the vehicle to jump over it, with the rear end sliding down the rail until it came to a stop. The vehicle then caught fire and became fully engulfed.
The driver of the truck has been identified as Paul Switzer, 34, of Saratoga, who died on scene.
At this time the cause of the crash and what caused the vehicle to burst into flames is unknown. The identification of Switzer brings deaths on Wyoming roadways to 116 in 2025. This is compared to 104 in 2024 and 137 in 2023.
