A Look at Cody Tennis Under New Head Coach Jason Quigley

The Cody Tennis teams are back in action and under the new operation of Head Coach Jason Quigley. Coach Quigley takes over a successful tennis program where a State Title is not only the goal but expected year-after-year. Coach Quigley is originally from the Casper area and is elated to be at the helm of Cody Tennis. I had the pleasure of catching up with Coach Quigley and he talks about the excitement of being on the court.
“Yeah, I love the game of tennis. It’s my passion. Fall in Wyoming is fantastic so we’re lucky to have good weather right now. It’s awesome just to be out here. I know the kids love it, with the weirdness that we have going on right now in our world, it’s nice to be able to have that opportunity to play.”
The Cody Tennis teams are coming off a phenomenal 2019 campaign in which the Fillies won all three doubles State Championships, while the Broncs are an up and coming squad. Coach Quigley on the emphasis at practice early on.
“Right now we’re just working on our ability to fight. Kind of that culture of embracing the fight, loving to fight. We don’t want easy matches. We don’t want it to be easy. We expect it to be hard, we want it to be hard and if we do that we’ll do well. That’s what we’re after is all about the fight right now.”
Competition will be fierce day in and day out as the Cody teams compete in an All-Class bracket. Coach Quigley may be new to that but he knows to control what you can control.
“Level of competition is… I don’t know. First year coach. I know what my kids bring to the table and I know they can compete well. Hopefully the other kids do the same thing from other schools because that just makes everybody better.”
As for competing for a State Title coach says lets take things one day at a time.
“The goal is always let’s peak at State. Let’s see if we can win a State Championship. So we have five more weeks and let’s see if we can peak in five more weeks. That’s our game-plan, get better every day.
The Cody Tennis teams are back in action Saturday when they host Jackson at 11am and Sheridan at 3 in the afternoon. Regional Tennis takes place in Cody September 18th and 19th with State in Gillette the 24th-26th. Stay tuned to the Big Horn Radio Network for more on Cody Tennis.
