Academics Celebrated at UW Signing Day

Written by on May 8, 2017

Even students who aren’t athletes will get a chance to be celebrated at the first ever UW Signing Day.

The University of Wyoming and Wyoming 4-H collaborated to host “UW Signing Day” in various high schools across the state. Shelley Dodd, UW Admissions director, says the event is open to students who have already registered at UW, and those who wish to sign up, as an occasion for students to experience the pride of a college signing day.

Jeremiah Vardiman, Educator for the UW Extension office in Powell, says the event has been one of the priorities of UW President Laurie Nichols. He says it is an effort to recognize students who have made the decision to further their education after high school.

Greybull’s Signing Day was held last Monday at noon, and in Meeteetse and Lovell, the event was a drop-in invitation during the day on May 1. In Cody, the event will occur this evening at 6 p.m. at the High School.

UW officials point out that attending the UW Signing Day event is not required and will not have any effect on scholarships nor enrollment with the University of Wyoming.
