Air Quality in Cody Rated “Unhealthy” Due to Montana Fires

The live IQ Air Index has rated the air quality of Cody on September 5 as “unhealthy” due to the smoke filling the skies. The PM2.5 concentration in Cody is currently 25.8 times the WHO annual air quality guideline value.
The fires in Montana could be to blame. According to the Montana Fire Info website, there are several fires in southern Montana near the Wyoming border that are causing the poor air quality in the Big Horn Basin.
At this time, there are 24 fires that have started in the last 24 hours in the Big Sky State with 114,317 acres burned. Of the current fires in Montana, 47% of them were caused by humans.
Majority of Montana has also been given an “unhealthy” air quality rating due to the fire smoke.
IQ Air recommends protecting agains the air pollution by wearing a mask, closing all windows to avoid dirty air coming in homes and buildings, and avoiding outdoor exercise activities. They also recommend running an air purifier if possible.
