Algae Bloom Poses Dangers at Boysen

Written by on July 31, 2018

A dangerous algae bloom at Boysen Reservoir is being investigated by the Wyoming Department of Health and the DEQ.
Authorities have issued a Recreational Use Advisory for parts of Boysen Reservoir, after a veterinarian had examined a sick dog and suspected the animal may have come into contact with a cyanobacteria bloom near the Tough Creek area at Boysen.
While the Department of Environmental Quality did not observe any blooms of the blue-green algae at Tough Creek, they did collect samples of a small bloom at the marina on the northeast side of the Reservoir. The results of the test showed that cyanobacteria cell densities were very high in the samples collected at the marina.
Advisory signs are being posted at the reservoir.
