August Snow in Beartooths

A winter weather advisory has been issued for this morning in portions of Montana and Wyoming along the Beartooth Highway corridor.
The National Weather Service office in Billings issued the alert yesterday, stating that 2 to 7 inches of wet snow is expected for the highest portions of the scenic highway. Snow is expected to fall at elevations of 9,000 feet and higher.
The advisory is effective today from 6 a.m. to noon. Slick, snow-packed roads and poor visibility are both expected.
Brian Tesar with the National Weather Service office in Billings says summer snowfall in the Beartooths’ higher elevations isn’t without precedent, but he says it’s still earlier than normal.
