BBCW Named Top Western Museum

Written by on August 10, 2017

A cornerstone of Cody’s tourism industry has been named the best in its class by a leading magazine.
True West magazine has once again named the Buffalo Bill Center of the West its Top Western Museum.
True West Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell says that the museum, which started out 100 years ago in a log cabin, goes beyond the heritage of Buffalo Bill himself. He says it does a remarkable job of preserving and sharing the Old West.
The Center’s Executive Director, Bruce Eldredge, says that the award verifies that their collective efforts to celebrate the Spirit of the American West for a hundred years resonates with those who love the West as much as they do. He adds that he believes the location of the museum is what sets it apart from other western collections.

For a dozen years, True West has recognized the best western museums and best western art museums in America for their dedication to keeping the Old West alive in our communities and nation. The Center of the West received top museum honors in 2015 as well.
Earlier this year, the Center earned the Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Western Museum, Best Western Art Gallery (Whitney Western Art Museum), and Editor’s Choice Award for Best American Indian Collection (Plains Indian Museum).
