Be Aware of Seasonal Closures in Cody Area

Written by on April 15, 2019

With spring in full swing, the Bureau of Land Management encourages people to get out and enjoy their public lands – but reminds recreationists of annual seasonal closures in the Cody Field Office area.

The Bald Ridge, Carter Mountain, Little Mountain and Twin Creek Trail areas remain seasonally closed to motorized vehicles. The closures are intended to limit disturbance to wildlife and big game in crucial winter ranges.

The Carter Mountain and Little Mountain areas continue to be open to non-motorized and non-mechanized recreation opportunities such as hiking, snowshoeing, horseback riding and skiing; Carter Mountain will remain closed through June 15th to all motorized travel, although the area remains open to foot and horseback travel. Little Mountain is closed through April 30 to all motorized travel in the high country.

Bald Ridge will re-open to all use on April 30th; and the Twin Creek Trail will reopen April 30 to all use where the trail easement passes through private land and on BLM-managed public land. The trail closure begins on the west side of the South Fork of the Shoshone River.
