Beck Lake Challenge Encourages Mental Health Conversations

Written by on June 6, 2019

For the ninth year in a row, the community of Cody is gathering to shine a light on the issue of mental health.

This Saturday, the Cody Medical Foundation and other partners are hosting the ninth annual Beck Lake Challenge. The event invites people of all ages to walk, run, bike, stroll, or otherwise move around the reservoirs on the south side of Cody Saturday morning, with the overall mission of raising awareness of mental health issues.

Meghan Brady, one of the volunteers on the committee that puts together the event, says it’s important to have these open conversations about mental illness.

Brady says one of the reasons they hold the event each year is to let people know about resources that are available for those who are facing mental health issues. She says there will be tables featuring service providers and other agencies that offer assistance to those who need help.

Registration is at 9 a.m., with race itself kicking off at 10, and a lunch served at 11:30, and Brady says the first 300 contestants entered will receive a goodie bag. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12, and entry forms are available online at codymedicalfoundation.org.
