Bighorn Basin Distillery on USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice List

Wyoming Whiskey is one of twenty craft whiskey distilleries chosen by experts on travel and American spirits as the best in the nation – but the public gets to decide if it’s the best overall.
USA Today is asking the American people to vote in another 10 Best Readers’ Choice lists for 2022. Travel experts select 20 nominees in contests covering several topics – food, lodging, destinations, etc. – and let readers vote on the best.
On the current list, the people are voting for the Best Craft Whiskey Distillery.
“The American craft whiskey scene has really come into its own over the past few years,” the website reads, “expanding beyond the traditional Tennessee and Kentucky bourbons to include ryes, single malts, blends, and white whiskeys made with a combination of old-world and new-school techniques. We asked a panel of travel experts and American spirits experts to nominate 20 of the best craft whiskey distilleries in the USA.”
One of the nominees- already in the top ten – is the Bighorn Basin’s own Wyoming Whiskey.
USA Today’s experts choose Wyoming Whiskey for its spirits and the spirit that drives the business – “100% Wyoming.”
Located in the town of Kirby in Hot Springs County, Wyoming Whiskey is the first legal distillery in the State of Wyoming. All the ingredients in their product – corn, wheat, malted barley, limestone water – are locally sourced, making it “100% Wyoming.”
The Readers’ Choice entry for Wyoming Whiskey cites its history and beverages as reasons it deserves to be among the best distilleries in the United States.
“The Mead family established themselves in Wyoming as ranchers in 1890 and have branched into sourcing local ingredients and producing the “Whiskey of the West.” Some of their most popular beverages include a Small-Batch Bourbon with hints of caramel and vanilla; a Single-Barrel Bourbon with impressions of butter crème and candied orange peel; and the aromatic and spicy Barrel Strength Bourbon Whiskey which reminds the drinker of fudge and anise.”
As of Wednesday, August 31, Wyoming Whiskey ranks sixth on the USA Today Readers’ Choice leaderboard.
Anyone can vote for their favorite nominee once daily until voting ends at noon on Monday, September 26. The ten winning distilleries will be announced on Friday, October 7.
The Bighorn Basin is a popular presence on USA Today Readers’ Choice lists. In July, Cody was ranked as the 7th Best Small Town Arts Scene in the United States.
