FOR THE CODY BRONCS TENNIS TEAM IT’S BEEN AN UP AND DOWN YEAR. THE TEAM STARTED OFF THE SEASON STRONG, HIT A ROUGH PATCH AND FINISHED THE SEASON AT AN EVEN 6-6 OVERALL. NOW THEY ARE GETTING READY FOR THE REGIONAL TOURNAMENT AND WHILE IT IS A YOUNG TEAM THEY ARE EXPERIECED. CODY CHAPLIN MADE THE JUMP FROM NUMBER 2 SINGLES PLAYER TO THE BRONCS NUMBER 1 AND TALKS ABOUT THAT TRANSITION.
“ITS BEEN INTERESTING GOING INTO ONE SINGLES AS A SOPHOMORE. ITS KIND OF BEEN A LEARNING YEAR FOR SURE, FOR ME BECAUSE ONE SINGLES IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT GAME THAN TWO SINGLES. THAT’S WHAT I PLAYED LAST YEAR. I’VE JUST BEEN WORKING ON GETTING AS GOOD AS I POSSIBLY CAN THIS YEAR AND I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING AS A JUNIOR AND SENIOR.”
MEANWHILE, THE BRONCS NUMBER 2 SINGLES PLAYER JACKSON GOLDEN TALKS ABOUT WHAT THE TEAM IS DOING TO PREPARE FOR THIS WEEKEND.
“THIS WEEK WE’RE PLAYING DIFFERENT PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE COMMUNITY, PEOPLE TOUGHER THAN SOME OF THE MATCH-UPS WE’VE HAD THIS YEAR, TO GET US READY FOR THE TOUGH MATCHES WE’RE GOING TO HAVE AT REGIONALS AND STATE. I MEAN OUR CONFERENCE HAS BEEN PRETTY TOUGH BUT OUR GOALS GOING FORWARD ARE GET AS GOOD OF A SEED AS WE CAN GOING INTO STATE AND TAKING IT ONE MATCH AT A TIME.”
THERE HAS BEEN SOME SHUFFLING WITH THE DOUBLES TEAMS THROUGH THE YEAR BUT NOW THAT TEAMS ARE SET DILLON ROMERO BELIEVES THE BRONCS ARE READY TO MAKE SOME NOISE.
“WE HAVE A LOT OF REALLY SOLID TALENT. WE’RE JUST NOW, TOWARDS THE END OF THE SEASON, REALLY STARTING TO TAP INTO THAT 100 PERCENT. WE’VE HAD A SOLID TEAM AND WE JUST HAVEN’T REALLY PUT IT TOGETHER IN THE RIGHT MOMENTS THAT LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. NOW IN TERMS OF MENTALITY WE’RE WHERE WE NEED TO BE IN TERMS OF TECHNICAL ABILITY. SO REALLY IT’S JUST KEEPING THAT CULTURE OF HARD WORK AND INTEGRETY AND DEDICATION GOING.”
THE CODY BRONCS TENNIS TEAM TAKES PART IN THE REGIONAL TOURANMENT THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY IN KELLY WALSH. STAY TUNED TO THE BIG HORN RADIO NETWORK FOR RESULTS.
