BOTH CODY BASKETBALL TEAMS CONTINUED 4A NORTHWEST CONFERENCE PLAY OVER THE WEEKEND WITH GAMES ON THE ROAD AND AT HOME.

BOTH TEAMS BEGAN THE WEEKEND WITH A TRIP BACK TO CASPER TO TAKE ON KELLY WALSH. THE GIRLS GOT THE ACTION GOING EARLY AS CODY FOUND THEMSELVES DOWN BY TWO AT THE END OF ONE QUARTER AND WOULD TRAIL GOING INTO THE HALF 20-14.

THE THIRD QUARTER PROVED TO BE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE GAME AS THE LADY TROJANS DROPPED IN 15 THIRD QUARTER POINTS AND HELD CODY TO JUST 8 IN THE FRAME. THE FILLIES VALIANTLY FOUGHT BACK BUT TO NO AVAIL AS THEY DROPPED THE CONTEST BY A FINAL SCORE OF 48-39.

LEADING THE WAY FOR THE FILLIES WAS TORRIE SCHUTZMAN AND TEAGAN THOMPSON WITH 12 POINTS A PIECE.

IN FRIDAY’S NIGHTCAP IT WAS THE CODY BRONCS TAKING ON THE DEFENDING CLASS 4A CHAMPS KELLY WALSH. HUNTER HAYS CAME OUT ON FIRE DROPPING IN 11 FIRST QUARTER POINTS AND THE BRONCS WOULD TRAIL AFTER ONE, 19-16. THE SECOND QUARTER WAS BACK-AND-FORTH AS BOTH TEAMS BATTLED TO SECURE THE LEAD AND MOMENTUM AND BY THE TIME THE HALF ROLLED AROUND THE TROJANS HELD ON TO A 1-POINT LEAD, 32-31.

IT WAS THE THIRD QUARTER WHERE THINGS BEGAN TO CHANGE. THE BRONCS OPENED UP THE QUARTER WITH STIFLING DEFENSE BUT KELLY WALSH BEGAN TO FIND THEIR RHYTHEM. BY THE END OF THE QUARTER THE TROJANS HAD BUILT A 7 POINT LEAD, 46-39. THE BRONCS BATTLE BACK OUTSCORING KELLY WALSH 6-3 TO OPEN THE FINAL FRAME AND WERE IN STRIKING DISTANCE TRAILING 49-45 WHEN THE TROJANS USED A LATE RALLY TO PULL AWAY IN THE FINAL MINUTES AND CAME AWAY WITH A 61-47 WIN.

LEADING THE WAY FRIDAY NIGHT WAS HUNTER HAYS WITH 23 POINTS. HE DROPPED IN TWO 3-POINTERS AND WAS 3-3 FROM THE FREE THROW LINE.

ON SATURDAY THE CODY BASKETBALL TEAMS RETURNED HOME TO THE SWEITZER GYMNASIUM HOSTING QUADRANT FOE ROCK SPRINGS.

THE FILLIES WOULD COME OUT OF THE GATE FIRING ON ALL CYLINDERS AND LED EARLY ON 11-1 BUT ROCK SPRINGS WOULD SPEND THE REST OF THE GAME CHIPPING AWAY.

AFTER THE INITIAL 11 POINT OUTBURST THE FILLIES STRUGGLED TO FIND ANY OFFENSIVE MOMENTUM SCORING JUST 20 POINTS IN THE FINAL THREE QUARTERS. ROCK SPRINGS TOOK THE LEAD FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE FOURTH QUARTER AND NEVER GAVE IT UP AGAIN PULLING AWAY FOR THE 42-35 CONFERNECE WIN.

LEADING THE WAY FOR THE FILLIES WAS TEAGAN THOMPSON AND KENNEDI NIEMANN WITH 9 POINTS EACH.

THE FILLIES WOULD GO 0-2 OVER THE WEEKEND DROPPING THEIR OVERALL RECORD TO 5-6, THEY’RE 0-3 IN THE 4A NORTHWEST CONFERENCE.

IN THE SECOND GAME OF THE DAY SATURDAY, TRISTAN BLATT GOT THINGS GOING EARLY SCORING 9 POINTS IN THE FIRST QUARTER AS THE BRONCS LED AFTER ONE, 18-15. THE GAME WOULD NEVER BE CLOSE AGAIN AS THE BRONCS HELD THE TIGERS TO JUST 4 SECOND QUARTER POINTS AND LED AT THE HALF 32-19.

THIS WAS ONE OF THE BRONCS MOST IMPRESSIVE DEFENSIVE EFFORTS OF THE SEASON HOLDING THE TIGERS TO JUST 22 SECOND HALF POINTS EN ROUTE TO THE DOMINANT 64-37 WIN.

THE BRONCS HAD 10 DIFFERENT PLAYERS SCORE IN THE GAME LED BY COY NOVAKOVICH WHO DROPPED IN 14 POINTS, TRISTAN BLATT ADDED 11 AND DUNCAN RADAKOVICH HAD 10.

FOLLOWING THE WEEKENDS SPLIT THE BRONCS IMPROVE TO 4-7 OVERALL, 2-1 IN NORTHWEST 4A PLAY, GOOD FOR SECOND PLACE.
