A Powell school bus driver was involved in two separate crashes with pickup trucks in one day.
The Powell Tribune reports the second of the two crashes, which happened on Monday, resulted in an injury to a bus aide. No students were injured in either incident.
The first crash took place around 7:30 a.m. In that incident, Park County School District No. 1 officials say the bus driver didn’t see an approaching truck and failed to yield. Fourteen students had been riding on the bus.
The second crash, involving the same bus and driver, occurred around 4 p.m., just 1 mile north of the morning incident. Just two students were on board when a pickup ran a stop sign and crashed into the back of the bus. Park County School District No. 1 Superintendent Jay Curtis says a female bus aide suffered a bump to the head and was taken to Powell Valley Hospital.
In defense of the driver, Curtis told the Tribune that the man has been a quote, “exemplary employee,” endquote, with a near perfect record. Curtis compared the two incidents to lightning striking the same person twice in one day.
