Clay Butte Lookout Re-opens

Written by on August 14, 2018

Clay Butte Lookout on the Clarks Fork District of the Shoshone National Forest is now open to visitors.
The lookout tower had been closed due to damage on Forest Service Road 142. The slump in the road has been repaired and safe access to Clay Butte Lookout has been restored.
Clay Butte Lookout was built in 1942 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and was staffed as a fire lookout tower until the 1960s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
