It’ll be a busy week of campaigning in northwest Wyoming, as Cody and Powell will host meet-and-greets and Q&As for candidates in the upcoming Wyoming Republican Party primary.
The Wyoming Republican Party primary will be held on Tuesday, August 16. In anticipation of the primary that will likely determine the outcome of the November election, the Cody and Powell Chambers of Commerce are hosting candidate meet-and-greets this week.
The Powell Economic Partnership (P.E.P.)/ Powell Chamber/ Powell Visitor Center hosts an afternoon Meet the Candidates event at Washington Park from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on August 11. This is an event that P.E.P. has hosted for every election since 2016.
In addition to giving residents another chance to hear from candidates, the Powell event encourages voter demographics to participate in this and future elections.
P.E.P. hopes to encourage more voters from underrepresented groups to attend the forum, hear the candidates, and vote in the primary. To accomplish this, a beer garden and election-themed games for kids are included at the event.
Meanwhile, the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce and Forward Cody are hosting a morning Candidate Meet and Greet on Friday, August 12, from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The event will be held at City Park, on Sheridan Avenue and 9th Street.
Both events include informal networking sessions – residents can speak directly with the candidates before a candidate forum begins.
At the Cody event, candidates for selected races will provide a short response to the following questions:
- What makes you the best-qualified candidate for the position you seek?
- Tourism and economic development are important components of Park County’s economy. If elected, what will you do to support or enhance our ability to thrive economically?
Over 39 candidates from the most significant national, state, and local races have committed to participating in both events.
